Soak in the views at Hot Tubs Omarama

hot tub in new zealand

Planning a trip to Southern New Zealand? I spent five months researching all the places I wanted to see and experiences I wanted to try. This was one I gladly did not miss!

Hot Tubs Omarama is located in a small town called, you guessed it – Omarama! Reservations are highly recommended to be made at least a month in advance.

You can easily make a reservation on their website and choose the package that suits you. I’ve linked their site for you right here:

Keep in mind though that during peak season, the demands will be even greater. So if you can book as far out as you can, do it. Peak Season starts at the end of November and ends in early February. We choose the hot tub package for 2 people for 1.5 hours for NZD 98. Before booking, I checked the sunset time for my date and purposely made reservations about an hour before the sunset time. Other websites technically provide the same information or more, but I use this website always to check it:

My sunset time was 9:34 PM that day, so I went ahead and booked the 8:30 PM reservation. Believe me, it was the best decision to book this time. I had some daylight seeing the sky dance and transition to pastel colors and going into the blue hour. During blue hour, there is a bit of “blue tone” lighting, enough to guide you back to the showers.

When we arrived we were kindly greeted by our host who went over the rules and showed us the way to our tub. There, he also showed us how to operate the tub. Our tun has a built-in wood burner making it easy to control the temperature. By simply shutting or opening the lid to the wood burner. He also provided us complimentary water in a jug and cups by placing it on stand conveniently in reach from the tub.

Make sure to stay hydrated as being in a hot tub raises our inner body temperature. Also, you should step out of the tub for a few minutes every fifteen minutes to cool your body off.

As you relax in the tub, you can soak in the view of the lake, the wildlife, and hear nature’s best music. The ambiance and scenery made me feel as if I was in the middle of nowhere.

Take my advice and plan efficiently.

If you’re coming from Queenstown and heading to either Lake Pukaki or Lake Tekapo (or vice versa), make this place a pit stop.

This was one of the best experiences I had on this trip and I’m glad to share this with you guys.

Are there any other experiences similar to this you know about in New Zealand or any other places in the world? Let me know in the comments!
